LIGHTBOX

001 / Lightbox

A proof-of-concept prototype for a performative surface, this project uses photometric sensors to activate columns of light emitting diodes based on user proximity.  This project was developed with the help of Mark Latos, an electrical engineer and good friend of mine.

Lightbox was made with the intent of scaling up to encompass a full wall. The limits of the prototyping hardware and current required to drive the LEDs allowed for a 60-LED array, more than enough to functionally describe the intent of the project.

The design of the enclosure attempted to hide any unnecessary components and be as simple as possible.  Aside from some last-minute hardware decisions, the box maintains a design aesthetic of simplicity and proportion.
